Lunch Talks: Who owns a farmer's data?

All you should know: Data Ownership

Although digitalisation in agriculture has great potential for rural development and climate change mitigation, it is subject to relevant concerns. Since smallholders and farmworkers are at the heart of the required data collection, development initiatives need to be careful with defending their data rights.

In our first Lunch Talk, Fairfoodie Josje Spiering will bring us along in a 30-minute lunch session, where she will pick the brains of experts on data governance. Providing you with an "all you should know" on fair data!

Bringing their expertise to the table will be researcher Sidi Amar of the Maastricht University “Fair & Smart Data” Spearhead, and Jonathan van Geuns, project manager at Development Gateway.

Make the most of your lunch break, and join us for an “all you should know” on fair data! Bringing you answers to the following questions, and more:

  • What does data ownership actually mean?

  • What are the opportunities and risks for farmer data collection?

  • How can we keep prioritising farmers in our digitisation strategy?
