In an ideal world, both construction equipment and battery electric vehicles are charged with clean power in any location at any time. This would be the most efficient solution.

In a real world, the grid is typically not strong enough in every location, especially when it comes to high power charging of battery electric vehicles, construction machinery and similar use cases.

In such situations, diesel generators can be used – or their clean alternatives.
An ideal setup consists of batteries to buffer a part of the electricity with a high roundtrip efficiency and a fuel cell to run 24/7 on hydrogen, methanol, biomethanol or another synthetic liquid fuel that was produced in a clean way.

Advent Technologies has just launched such a solution based on their proprietary high temperature PEM fuel cell that can run on various types of liquid fuels such as synthetic methanol. This fuel can be delivered to the locations just like any other liquid fuel and generate the desired amount of power when needed.
