About Tomomi Suga, Presenter

​​​​​​​Tomomi Suga won the IFSCC Best Poster Award at the 2021 IFSCC Cancún Conference for this work. She is a Photoprotection Expert at L'Oréal Japan. 

​​​​​​​After graduating Tokyo University with a Master Degree in Marine Biology, Ms. Suga joined L'Oréal Japan's skincare team in 2008. She worked on the Shu Uemura product development team for 3 years, then on the skintone maintainment team for another 3. For the past 8 years she has worked on photoprotective formulation. Her expertise encompasses cosmetic water, milky lotion, essence, cream, mask, bi-phase, spray, balm, BB, etc.

Tomomi has worked on product development from formulation to scale-up, including safety / efficacy, stability, in vivo / vitro testing, regulation, and patent claims.

Her current focus is on developing efficient formulation to achieve products with the targeted SPF,  various textures (especially fresh gel), all mineral composition, and lasting performance.

About Tomoko Sekine, Guest Scientist


Dr. Sekine is a Senior Research Scientist at Shiseido where she started her career as a research scientist in 1993. At Shiseido she has been involved in the development of new emulsification technologies for skin care products, especially emulsions with unique textures such as multiple emulsions and Pickering emulsions. She holds a BS from Waseda University’s Department of Applied Chemistry and received her PhD in colloid and interface science from Tokyo University of Science. She joins the IFSCC Praesidium in 2022 as Chair of Science.

About Perry Romanowski, IFSCC Chair of Education

Perry joined the IFSCC Praesidium in 2019 after years of service with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (USA and Canada), including a term as President. He is owner of ChemistsCorner.com, an on-line educational company devoted to educating scientists about cosmetic chemistry. Thousands around the world have taken his on-line classes and more have watched his webinars. He brings his extensive expertise to his role as IFSCC Chair of Education.
