What You Will Learn In The Webinar

„Green Hydrogen“ is usually defined as “hydrogen made via electrolysis using renewable electricity”. However, hydrogen made from biomass is CO2 neutral as well and can be defined as “green”.

Several types of biomass can be used:

  • Waste biomass, e.g. waste from agricultural and food production
  • Waste wood
  • Agricultural products
  • Sewage sludge
  • Biomethane made from plants or produced on landfills
  • Etc.

Obviously, converting waste to something useful makes a lot of sense. On the other hand, using food (or some agricultural product that could be used for food production) to produce hydrogen might be problematic.

Another very interesting method is hydrogen production using aquatic biomass such as algae. This production method is still in the research state, but in the long term it might be one of the cheaper methods to convert sunlight to an energy carrier.

A leading expert both for hydrogen production from solid and aquatic biomass is Dr. Mishma Silvia Stanislaus from the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, India. Mishma holds a Ph.D. from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and is the author and co-author of dozens of publications on hydrogen production from biomass.

In this webinar, she will explain the different hydrogen production routes, the technological aspects, the CO2 content per kilogram, and emphasize the potential of hydrogen production from biomass in India.
