Covid-19 has presented us with an opportunity to showcase online education. During the pandemic, students and teachers all around the world were forced into online classes and for most, gained their first experiences of them. There was good and bad, and many will have hated that experience. But for some, it has opened their eyes to what is possible. We, as educators, now have an opportunity to improve our offerings here - let's build a gold standard for online programs by building an acceptable, rigorous and robust learning environment; one where the potential of online can be realized.

Dr Adriana A (Riana) Steyn
Riana has been with the University of Pretoria for the past thirteen years after she returned to academia from industry. She is currently a full-time senior lecturer in the Department of Informatics. Throughout the years, Riana has engaged numerous students by presenting both undergraduate and postgraduate modules. She has published various articles based on her teaching experiences over the last few years. She has also supervised many students on masters as well as PhD level. Her research focuses mainly on technology in education within the business analysis and design space, and how she can engage students more effectively whilst still delivering good quality content. Her different approach to teaching was born from the Entrepreneurial research she is also passionate about. Her PhD focused specifically on entrepreneurs. Here she developed a framework for SMEs to engage more effectively with technology as well as developing an e-skills for entrepreneurs course which focuses on effective technology engagement to create sustainable businesses. She is still actively involved in entrepreneurial research in the South African context. She is also a National research fund (NRF) Y-Rated researcher since 2020. She is a UP teaching excellence Laureates’ recipient (2019) as well as recipient of an Association of Information Systems’ Award for Innovation in Teaching (2018) (International award). She is also the IFIP TC 3 South African representative.
Professor Geoff Dick
Dr. Geoffrey Dick currently teaches at St John’s University in New York City. After a 20-year academic career in Australia, he was appointed Professor of Information Systems at Dowling College NY in 2009, and subsequently, Professor of Information Systems at North Georgia University in 2011. Since then he has also taught at Georgia Southern, George Washington and Northern Arizona universities. Geoff has taught in the online environment for almost 30 years. He is a long-term co-chair of the Education track at AMCIS and was doctoral consortium co-chair for AMCIS 2019. His research (over 100 publications) is mainly in the areas of telecommuting (his PhD) and on-line education – he is the recipient of the ICIS prize for best paper in education and was awarded the 2009 Emerald Management Review Citation of Excellence for one of the best papers published worldwide in the top 400 business journals. He has been a visiting fellow at UC Davis, the University of Malaya, the Tec de Monterrey in Mexico, University of Agder in Norway and has taught in the prestigious programs of the ESAN Summer School in Lima, Peru, the CETYS International Summer Program in Ensenada and at ITAM in Mexico City.
Associate Professor Therese Keane
For over 25 years Associate Professor Therese Keane has been a stalwart for empowering girls in STEM. Her passion and many achievements have been acknowledged by her peers in her receiving numerous national and state awards. Therese is currently the Deputy Chair of the Department of Education at Swinburne University. She has worked in a variety of school settings where she has taught IT and lead in K-12 education as the Director of ICT. Therese has served on a number of State, National and International Boards; Chair of Australian Computer Society’s (ACS) ICT Educators Committee, Australian Council of Computers in Education (ACCE) and Australian Representative for the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) Technical Committee on Education (TC3). Currently, she is the Vice Chair for TC3 - WG3.3 - "Research into Educational Applications of Information Technologies". Therese is an Assistant Editor for "Education and Information Technologies" - the official journal of the IFIP Technical Committee on Education. It covers the complex relationships between information and communication technologies and education. Throughout her career, Therese has also been an office holder in three professional teaching associations, the Victorian Information Technology Teachers Association (VITTA), Information and Communications Technology in Education Victoria (ICTEV) and the Digital Learning & Teaching Victoria (DLTV). Therese has presented numerous seminars and workshops for teachers involved in the teaching of IT. She has written several textbooks in all units of Senior IT in Victoria, VCE Information Technology since 1995 and has worked with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) in the development of the VCE IT Study Design and various roles associated with VCE assessment over the past 25 years. Therese is involved in the provision of professional development to ICT teachers and research into the use of technology, gender inequalities in STEM based subjects, robotics in education and computers in schools for teaching and learning purposes. Therese has developed and delivered workshops in humanoid robot (NAO) for primary and secondary school students and was also involved with the FIRST LEGO League as Tournament Director for Victoria and lead mentor for the RoboCats – a school girl only robotics team that participated in the FIRST Robotic Competition from 2014-2020.
Dr Andreea Molnar
Andreea is an Associate Professor at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia and an Anna Boyksen Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study with the Technical University of Munich, Germany. She holds a PhD in Technology Enhanced Learning from the National College of Ireland. Her research interests are on the usage and adoption of technology and diversity in computing. She is a Senior Editor for Information Technology and People.
