TRAINING FOR THERAPISTS AND OTHER TRAUMA WORKERS

About The Training

Being a therapist is hard and demanding work. Guiding people through their stories can be intense. Listening to the hurts they experienced can be painful. Sitting in the tension they bring into the therapy room can take an emotional toll. You entered this field out of a desire to help people. What do we do when helping others is hurting us?

Therapists invest thousands of dollars and countless hours in their preparation and training. Yet, over half of all therapists don’t stay in the field long enough to even pay off their student loans. The average mental health practitioner stays at their job for 1-2 years, based on a recent study of 2,200 mental health practitioners. Over 70% of the respondents reported medium to high levels of burnout, secondary traumatic stress symptoms, and compassion fatigue, whereas one-third of the respondents reported a high level of intention to leave their job in the current or near future.

Being able to care for our own mental health is essential to longevity in the field and continuing to find the work we do fulfilling. Self-care is much broader than simply eating right and getting plenty of sleep. After 45 years in the field, I’m excited to share with you what I have learned about surviving weekly trauma exposure and thriving. This two day Self-care and Trauma Stewardship Training will teach you the 10 keys to professional survival, so that you can continue to enjoy the work that you do long into the future. This might be the most important training you attend for your professional development. Set aside these dates as a first step in your self-care and a gift to yourself.
