Autistic Masking: What Does it Look Like?

Monday 11th December, 8:00 - 9:00pm AEDT

Join us for a LIVE and interactive webinar to discover the hidden truth behind Autistic Masking.

In this webinar, we will explore the phenomenon of autistic masking and how children and adults modify their behavior to hide their natural autistic responses and behavior that others might find confusing or uncomfortable. This mask, persona, socially appropriate identity camouflages their true self and makes them less likely to stand out.

Masking involves compensation techniques, such as rehearsing how to respond (scripting), selective impulse control, and denial of natural responses. This impacts self-esteem, self-identity, and can ultimately lead to additional stress, overwhelm, meltdown, and burnout. So, in this webinar, Paul and Shannan will discuss the following:

  • What is masking and camouflaging?
  • Masking in children and adults
  • Impact of masking
  • How to respond - creating positive identity

NOTE: This webinar is INTERACTIVE. This means you will be invited to respond to discussion questions, share your experience, give your opinion, and, of course, ask questions of your own! (all participation is voluntary)
