Kiru Pillay
Dr. Kiru Pillay, Chief Director: Cybersecurity Operations in the South African Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS), where he is responsible for the national cybersecurity mandate and the management of the national Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT). Dr Pillay has over 30 years’ experience in the ICT sector including 23 years as an ICT practitioner and nine years as an academic and researcher. He is currently in the Public Sector at the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT,) managing the national Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT). He also manages the African Digital Transformation Centre which is envisaged at operationalising the Department’s Fourth Industrial revolution goals and objectives, across government. He holds a PhD in Information Systems and is a visiting academic at Wits University, with a primary responsibility for postgraduate supervision and curriculum development with some lecturing responsibilities. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
Brett van Niekerk
Dr Brett van Niekerk: Senior lecturer in computer science at the University of KwaZulu‐Natal Dr Brett van Niekerk is a senior lecturer in computer science at the University of KwaZulu‐Natal. He serves as chair of the International Federation of Information Processing Working Group on ICT in Peace and War, and is the co‐Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Cyber Warfare and Terrorism. His years of experience span information/cyber‐security work in both academia and industry, and he has contributed to the ISO/IEC information security standards. In 2012 he graduated with his PhD focusing on information operations and critical infrastructure protection. He also holds a MSC in electronic engineering and is CISM certified.
Jabu Mtsweni
Dr Jabu Mtsweni: Head of Information and Cyber Security Centre at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Research Fellow at University of South Africa, and Technical Leader of the National Policy Data Observatory. Dr Mtsweni has been involved in leading, supporting, and implementing large and complex ICT and ICT4D projects in large state-owned enterprises (in South Africa and Africa), Government Departments and the private sector. His research interests and technical expertise are in the areas of digital security, digital transformation, data science, cybersecurity, and cybercrimes. He regularly speaks at various local and international conferences on various technology issues. He has over 18 years’ academic and industry experience working with different local, regional and international industries and partners. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed conference and journal articles with a number of collaborators.
