Hydrogen Safety – Lessons Learned – Panel Discussion

Free Webinar
October 26, 2022 - 4 pm in Berlin, 7 am in Los Angeles, 11 pm in Tokyo

Hydrogen safety is paramount for any hydrogen project or application. In this webinar, five experts with a combined experience of more than 80 years in hydrogen and gas safety will share their knowledge and especially their lessons learned from the last 12 months (that you will not find in textbooks).

Julian Arevalo: Hydrogen safety at refueling stations
Julian is responsible for hydrogen safety at 38 public hydrogen refueling stations in California.  He is also responsible for developing best practice and standard operating procedures both for daily operations and maintenance. Julian will present insights into his daily experience, share lessons learned from 2,000 daily fills and propose operating procedures that other companies should adopt.

Dr Maxim Bragin:
Hydrogen safety of fuel cell vehicles
Maxim is responsible for hydrogen safety of fuel cell vehicles at Ballard Motive Solutions. He holds a Ph.D. in Hydrogen Safety Engineering from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. Maxim has worked as a hydrogen safety researcher on spontaneous hydrogen ignition, vented deflagrations, hydrogen dispersion and accumulation of hydrogen in confined spaces and other hydrogen safety related topics for 20 years. Maxim will present lessons learned on hydrogen safety for mobile applications and share best practices.

Claudio Fecarotta: Gas and flame detection for electrolyzers
Claudio has 22+ years of experience in gas and flame detection and worked with customers in 1,000+ projects. Currently, he is responsible for optimizing leak detection solutions for green hydrogen production. Claudio will present case studies from current projects and show why a combination of different sensor technologies is the best way to optimize leak detection.

Martin Sekura: Hydrogen Safety of Components
Martin has 12+ years of hydrogen experience and has spent 11 years designing and operating hydrogen test laboratories. His current responsibilities include hydrogen material compatibility testing of components, codes & standards development and business development. Martin will present his lessons learned from the last year on stainless steel compatibility for hydrogen applications, o-ring damage mechanisms etc.

Volodymyr Shentsov: Hydrogen safety in tunnels and confined spaces
Volodymyr has 10+ years of academic research and teaching experience in hydrogen safety. His research focusses on analytical and CFD studies of hydrogen safety related phenomena such as dispersion in vented and closed confinements and tunnels, jet fire, hydrogen combustion, tank rupture and safety mechanisms and blast mitigation effects. Volodymyr will present new results from several EU-funded projects on hydrogen safety.
