The Asian Aspiration Book Launch: Business Maverick Editor, Tim Cohen in discussion with Head of the Brenthurst Foundation and author, Dr Greg Mills, and Professor Haroon Bhorat, Professor of Economics and the Director of the Development Policy Research Unit at the University of Cape Town.
Dr Greg Mills heads the Johannesburg-based Brenthurst Foundation, established in 2005 by the Oppenheimer family to strengthen African economic performance. He has been a fellow at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore, at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at Australia National University, Cambridge University, theVietnamese Academy for Social Sciences, and later this year at Shanghai University’s Centre for Global Studies. An Advisory Board member of the London-based Royal United Services Institute, he is the author of the best-selling books Why Africa Is Poor, Africa’s Third Liberation, and together inter alia with Brenthurst’s chairman President Olusegun Obasanjo Making Africa Work: A Handbook for Economic Success and Democracy Works: Rewiring Politics for Africa’s Advantage which was published in 2017
Haroon Bhorat is Professor of Economics and Director of the Development Policy Research Unit at the University of Cape Town.
His research interestscover labour economics, poverty and income distribution. He has co-authoredand co-edited a number of books on labour market and poverty issues in Africa. Haroon has published more than 200 academic journal articles, book chapters and working papers.
His commitments at UCT include lecturing Advanced Labour Economics (Hons), and supervision to Honours, Masters and Phd students
