Infectious Diseases - 4 Hours
During and after the pandemic, people became much more aware of how many diseases can spread. Mitigating the spread of disease as a first responder goes beyond just COVID-19. Officers are in close contact with many people, and any of them could – knowingly or unknowingly – have an infectious disease.
Understanding the diseases and sicknesses that are at the highest risk for law enforcement officers to obtain is the start. Officers also benefit from understanding how diseases can spread and what the signs and symptoms are.
VirTra’s “Infectious Diseases” course combines classroom material for officers to learn from as well as interactive scenarios to help officers practice what they've learned.
Contact Cover Concepts - 3 Hours
In any instance where multiple officers are responding to a call, effective communication and teamwork provide an extra layer of safety. Officers must not only communicate with each other, but also relay information to dispatch. Among these responsibilities, there also must be proper distancing and movement to ensure visualization of each other and the subject(s).
This course will go into detail about each officer's roles and responsibilities.
Training, Tactics, Procedures (TTP)
Your role, where to stand, cover and concealment and positioning will all be covered.
Duties & Responsibilites
Watching for pre-atack indicators such as visual, verbal or phsycial cues play a cruicial part in the splitting of responsibilites in a contact/cover setup.
Practical Application
You'll spend valuable training time inside the VirTra simulator & V-XR heasdset applying what you've learned. Using our training scenarios, you will be able to see how a proper contact and cover setup can give you the advantage to stay safe.
Duty To Intervene - 2.5 Hours
At the end of this course, students will have a better understanding of how the public sees law enforcement and discuss significant failure to intervene incidents. We will cover when an officer must intervene, and who it applies to.
Significant court cases regarding duty to intervene and the policy and legal requirements of duty to intervene will be discussed.
Through training videos made specifically for this course, you will identify criteria that constitute a failure to intervene, understand the role training has in duty to intervene cases and identify best practices on duty to intervene training and implementation.
High Risk Vehicle Stops - 6.5 Hours
At the end of this course, using lecture presentations and video scenario simulations with an on-screen contact officer, the student will take the role of a Primary Officer and Secondary Officer, and successfully:
Use proper verbal commands to remove the driver from the vehicle and direct them to a handcuffing position.
Use proper verbal commands to remove a passenger from the vehicle and direct them to a handcuffing position.
Make appropriate force decisions while in a High-Risk Vehicle Stop context.
