Living in Lockdown: Loneliness - Let's talk about it
Hi there, Are you lonely? Do you know someone who is struggling with loneliness?
Our world is continually trying to get us connected, the internet promises us worldwide connection, social media companies tell us if we will only join up on their particular platform we can have thousands of friends. Millions and millions of people all over the world are “connected”, there are billions of text messages sent every day, billions of tweets, Facebook posts, you tube videos, it is never ending: YET we have the greatest amount of people ever in history saying they are lonely. A survey in 2018 in the UK found 40% of 16-24 year olds saying that they were lonely.
Loneliness affects people of all ages – 33% of those who completed the survey said that they were lonely. Loneliness is happening to people all around us and it’s also happening to US. Not the other person, not just the old woman down the road, not just the cranky man who lives around the corner. It’s happening to US.
Join us as we take some time to explore just what is going on in our world we are going to look at some of the causes of loneliness, some of the detrimental affects of loneliness on our physical and mental health and also look at some ideas of how to tackle loneliness in our everyday ordinary lives.
