TIGA WEBINAR SERIES - 8
The Impact of COVID-19 on China’s Engagement with Africa
In this webinar, with distinctive speakers, we will underline key developments in bilateral relations between China and a wide range of African countries, and discuss the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economic, political and social relations between the two regions.
Since 2000 China has emerged as Africa’s largest trading partner. Chinese direct investment in and lending to African countries has grown rapidly in the recent decades. China has a long history in Africa, dating back to Mao’s policy of courting friendship among developing nations.
Apart from the tragic human consequences of the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic, it has the potential to significantly slowdown not only the Chinese economy but also the global economy including many African nations.
