About The Webinar

This Special Populations course focuses on how first responders should interact with children that have Autism.  This curriculum has been produced in partnership with the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center (SARRC), who specializes in working with people with Autism.

During this course, you will learn what Autism is, how to recognize it and the following:

  • Signs of Stimming

    Learn what stimming is and how to avoid misinterpreting it as something else.​​​​​​​

  • Challenges to Law Enforcement

    Issues specific to interacting with people with Autism.  This includes  working around repetitive behaviors, a tendancy to flee (bolters/runners) and possibly giving resistance to direction or control.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

  • Tools

    Helping you succeed in your contact by giving you tips on how to interact, assistive communication techniques and how to handle an arrest.​​​​​​​
