Dr. Anna Vaught is an English teacher, creative writing mentor, occasional lecturer, and author of ten books across genre and form, including the novel Saving Lucia, the short fiction collection Famished, the memoir These Envoys of Beauty, the novel The Zebra, Lord Jones, a first teaching book The Alchemy, and the Curae anthology of short prose from the winning entrants to the prize she established in 2023 for writer-carers. 2024 saw her first essay collection, To Melt the Stars, and illustrated novelette Her Winter Song. In 2025, the next in her teaching series will be published: look out for The Elixir. Her teaching books focus on writing alongside significant challenges. Anna is currently working on a new novel and a literary self-help series. She has written widely for journals, magazines, and anthologies, and has been a columnist for both Mslexia and The Bookseller. You may also find her work in Litro, New Welsh Review, The Independent, Hinterland, Minor Lits, and 3:AM. Previously educated at the universities of Cambridge and Bristol (English Literature), she recently completed a PhD at York St John University (Creative Writing). Anna works alongside chronic illness and has particular interests in trauma and its representation in literature, in access and representation in publishing, and in supporting small publishers across the British Isles. She is also a mental health campaigner and advocate and presses for SEN reform across the education system. This year, she is training as a meditation teacher.

Kat Ashton
Our Head of Courses Kat has a BA in English Literature and Spanish from the University of Leeds. She spent several years living and working overseas before realising she missed the rain (and the excuse to curl up with a good book!) and now spends her time exploring the Oxfordshire countryside instead.
