    Country Manager for Mastercard South Africa

    Suzanne oversees the performance, strategic direction and brand development of the payments’ technology company in South Africa. Her role includes finding new ways to scale the innovative technologies and services in partnership with Mastercard’s customers - banks, fintechs, merchants and government - to create a world beyond cash. She holds an Honours degree in Business and Political Science from the University of Ottawa, a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Carleton University and an MBA from Queen’s University which she completed at the University of Peking in China. 

  • Ethel Nyembe
    Head: Card and Payments South Africa at Standard Bank Group

    Starting with a media career that included radio and television at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Ethel moved on to print, playing a key role at both Business Day and Sunday Times. Ethel was introduced to a career in banking, where she began a six-year tenure at First National Bank. In the first quarter of 2010, she joined Standard Bank, where she has played a role in Channel and Small Enterprise. Currently, she is heading up Card and Payments South Africa.​​​​​​​

  • Melissa Kariuki 
    Associate Product Marketing Manager at Google South Africa 

    ​​​​​​​Melissa’s focus at Google is bringing SMEs in Sub-Saharan Africa online and helping them grow. Prior to Google, Melissa worked across Asia, Europe, the US and Africa at a variety of organisations including Bain & Company, H&M, the Gates Foundation and INSEAD. She graduated with a First Class Honours from the African Leadership University in Mauritius.

  • Michael Avery
    Journalist and Broadcaster

    Michael is an anchor of the Classic Business show on Classic FM, presenter for Business Day TV and host of BusinessTech’s online Business Talk series. He edits the country’s premier private equity publication, Catalyst and holds a B.A. Journalism from the University of Johannesburg.
