This week we will be joining Monty on an extraordinary journey in the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic might seem on first glance to be a classic Caribbean Island, with white beaches, swaying palms and clear blue water. But the reality is a land of great history - with the oldest European settlement in the Americas, offshore reefs littered with the wrecks of galleons from centuries of trade, and a green interior full of hidden caves and rare species.
This is the place where the first cathedral, the first university, and the first hospital in the New World were founded. Off the coast, every year 3,000 humpbacks whales glide past on timeless migratory routes, giving birth to their young in the warm tropical waters before heading to cooler feeding grounds.
