Mind Reset: How the 12 Steps can be adapted for non-addicts to live a more meaningful life

For over a year now we have been living in a state of unpredictability due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In these times it can be difficult to understand our emotions and cope with issues such as anxiety and stress.

Together, Maverick Life Associate Editor Malibongwe Tyilo and Freddie Van Rensburg, Addiction and Specialist Wellness Councillor, will explore emotionally constructive methods of response during times of uncertainty using an adaptation of the 12-step programme.

  • Malibongwe Tyilo is a multimedia journalist and the associate editor of Maverick Life. In addition to writing about art, design, fashion, and culture, he loves digging into the latest research in the field of health and wellness, which he also covers extensively for Maverick Life.

  • Freddie Van Rensburg is a professional Addictions Counsellor, as well as a Specialist Wellness Counsellor, registered with both the Board of Addiction Professionals of South Africa (BAPSA) and the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners (ASCHP). 

    Van Rensburg did a BA Social Sciences, majoring in Psychology and Sociology, at the University of Johannesburg followed by an Honours in Sociology, specialising in Family Sociology, Group Dynamics and Industrial Sociology.

    He is the author of two books: The First Layer: Work through the 12 steps in 21 days, and Life Anon: A 12-step guide to life for non-addicts.
