Going Beyond the R in ADKAR
Performance Thinking® for Change Management

In the popular Prosci change management model, with its acronym ADKAR (Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, & Reinforcement), reinforcement can be expanded with a systemic model of Behavior Influence used to ensure implementation and sustainment of change.  Learn how we think about change and implementation planning..

About The Webinar

In Behavior Science, the term  reinforcement is restricted to events that follow behavior and increase the likelihood of that behavior occurring again or more frequently.  If an event following behavior does NOT accelerate behavior, it cannot be called reinforment. In the Prosci model, the term is used more generally to refer to all those things one might do to ensure that a given change is maintained. We take a more detailed performance engineering approach to enhance analysis and design for sustainment of change.

  • Focus on Accomplishments

As in strategic planning, if objectives for a change management initiative are described as accomplishments, countable valuable  things, change is easier to measure.

  • A Systemic Framework for Influencing Change & Sustainment

The Six Boxes® Model, based on Skinner's behavior science and Gilbert's performance engineering, is a complete framework for all possible factors that influence behavior. We use it both for planning change, and for sustainment.

  • Continuous Performance Improvement

We view change management and implementation planning as one application of performance improvement. As with Performance Thinking®, in general, we expect to adjust over time to sustain results and drive continuous improvement.
