Join award-winning Scorpio investigative journalist Pauli van Wyk in conversation with Anton Harber,author of So, For The Record, and Mandy Wiener, author of The Whistleblowers, discussing the process of the investigative work behind their recent book releases.
Pauli van Wyk is a Scorpio Investigative Journalist. Recruited to Daily Maverick just before the #GuptaLeaks, she is best known for her work on SARS, the justice cluster, state politics and the inescapable collision course they’re on and, more recently, her expose on the ties between Julius Malema and the looting of VBS Bank. Van Wyk’s awards include Sanlam Financial Journalist category winner and three-time Taco Kuiper winner, and runner-up. She was also part of the team that uncovered the #GuptaLeaks for which they received the Global Shining Light Award.
Anton Harber was a founding co-editor of the Weekly Mail,
later known as the Mail & Guardian. He was the chair of the
Conference of Editors in 1991, the National Association of
Broadcasters in 1998, and the Freedom of Expression Institute
in 2010. He serves on the board of directors of the Global Investigative Journalism Network and the Centre for Collaborative
Investigative Journalism. He is an adjunct professor of journalism at
the University of the Witwatersrand, a columnist for Business Day, and the co-editor or author of five books.
Mandy Wiener lives and works in Johannesburg. She is one of South Africa’s best-known and most-credible journalists and authors. Wiener has worked as a multi-award-winning reporter since 2004. The Whistleblowers is her fifth book, following on from Ministry of Crime: An Underworld Explored (2018); Behind the Door: The Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp Story (2014), with Barry Bateman; My Second Initiation: A Memoir (2013), with Vusi Pikoli, former head of the National
Prosecuting Authority; and the groundbreaking Killing Kebble: An Underworld Exposed (2011).
