In this session, Lyn Fairchild Hawks (essay coach, young adult author) and I will walk you through ways to get students unstuck and excited about their own writing. We’ll also preview a skills-intensive course, Practical Coaching Strategies for the Average Student Writer, that helps you coach everything from better content to better insight to better revision. 

Together, we'll explore how we can:
 -  Overcome student misunderstandings about details needed for a college essay
-  Get excited about students’ initial brainstorming, even if it seems lackluster 
-  Identify the character traits college admissions officers are looking for, and how that can focus our coaching conversations 
-  Teach some cool craft moves that get them expanding those details to “gold”
-  Talk about what “voice” is and where it shows up in an essay 
-  Talk about interviewing techniques for insight and coaching for revision 

Fun pre-work, and totally optional: Bring a detail from the 21 Details Exercise that you think makes you kinda unique (or quirky, weird, fun, nerdy, or “just me.”)​​​​​​​
