Tax options in Portugal following the 2024 budget

Portugal became a hot spot immigration destination in recent years, thanks to great beaches, fresh food, lovely people and also tax breaks and a relatively easy VISAs to obtain. The D7 and D8 visas in particular are very popular with expats and digital nomads.

However, on 2 October, 2023, the Prime Minister of Portugal dropped a bomb - the famous NHR program will be scrapped in 2024. Since this explosive announcement, the same Prime Minister resigned, but after the decision has been made to allow the budget to pass, the likely outcome remains the removal of NHR at the end of 2023, with some transitional arrangements.
