  • What Is Juneteenth?

Greetings! Our "30th year Pomona Valley Juneteenth Jazz and Arts Festival” is being postponed due to COVID-19, we will be doing a virtual tribute to Juneteenth, on that day, instead.Juneteenth (June 19, 1865), represents when Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, freeing all men born on American soil. It took 2 1/2 years later for the last slaves in Galveston Texas, to find out they were free. It is important to keep the African American culture alive, keep the fight for equality in our communities, fight for justice, and keep our freedom in the forefront as Americans..

  • Why Is Juneteenth Relevant In 2020?

There are so many stories that can be told from this time in history. Especially now in 2020, at a time when justice and inequality is once again in the forefront of our news as unrest is all across the nation because of the death of another black man by police brutality.

Just as freedom was not completed until the last slave was free, freedom, justice and equality is still not completed until we come together in unity to put a stop to the injustice against us.
