Peer-Mentoring for Early Childhood Educators
About The Webinar
The Canadian Child Care Federation, the Early Childhood Educators of BC and the Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre invite you to join us for a free webinar, Peer-Mentoring for Early Childhood Educators: A Powerful Approach for Connection, Inspiration, and Retention
Presented by Dr. Laura Doan, you will learn about the Peer-Mentoring for Early Childhood Educators in BC Project. Information on how the project was set up, what components helped to make it a success, as well as what participants experienced, will be shared. Through this project, participants found a safe space to share their everyday experiences as Early Childhood Educators. As one Educator shared, “The Peer-Mentoring [Project] gave us a space and an intention, a structure to come together and share our individual journeys and our different journeys.” Ideas for starting up a peer-mentoring program in your own community will be shared.
The Peer-Mentoring Project for Early Childhood Educators in BC paired up ECEs starting their professional journey together with experienced Educators, within a community of practice, so they could share their experiences, learn from each other, become part of a respected collective voice, and build an effective network of support. The project took place in 17 communities across BC and involved 200 ECEs and 20 facilitators. The project itself included peer-mentoring, online support, and access to professional development through a community of practice.
Dr. Laura Doan is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC, where she teaches in the Early Childhood Education and Master of Education Programs. Laura is inspired by the wisdom, strength, and resilience of ECEs.
