Continuing our Build Black Series, join Shopify in conversation with Black Entrepreneurs from around the world discussing how they have gotten to some of their most important milestones in their businesses. We'll speak about their entrepreneurial journey and dive into the practical tips that every viewer can take something from.

Here’s what you can expect during this two part event:

The Rise: Our first segment will be all about the hustle and grit it takes to rise up and stand out as an emerging brand, featuring Kyra of Kyra's Shea MedleysMarLan of Get Lacedand Manny of Jungle Fruits.

  • Brandon Davenport | BAOBAB

    Brandon is an experienced marketing professional, entrepreneur, and the co-founder of BAOBAB. Obsessed with quality, BAOBAB is the maker of the Perfect polo shirt; stylish eco-conscious polo shirts that are made to last. Brandon is a graduate of Morgan State University, a native of Baltimore Maryland, and resides in Los Angeles, California. BAOBAB is rapidly scaling and is currently raising capital via an equity Crowd-funding campaign.

  • Chantal Carter | Love and Nudes

    Chantal Carter is an entrepreneur who has worked in the fashion industry for over 20 years as a Stylist, Image Consultant, and magazine Style Director. Chantal’s passion to uplift women of colour through fashion caused her to develop a diverse skin tone intimates line called Love & Nudes. This brand is more than just fashion, it's a social movement connecting women and celebrating the beauty of difference.

  • Kyra Young | Kyra's Shea Medleys

    Kyra Young was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. She is the CEO and Co-Founder of Kyra’s Shea Medleys, an all-natural, multipurpose, and vegan hair and skincare line based in Atlanta, GA. Her mission is to empower women of color to embrace their natural curls and love their skin.

  • MarLan | Get Laced

    MarLan is an Educator by profession! As an amazing teacher and dynamic administrator, MarLan has changed lives through his unique approach to building relationships with his students. Inspired by a desire to impact lives in a greater manner, MarLan started Get Laced as a means of providing youth athletes and sneakerheads the opportunity to make their sneakers stand out. Having children involved in competitive youth sports and knowing many sneaker collectors, he knew that this was the lane that he wanted to be in.

  • Maeva | BREAD Beauty Supply

    Born and raised in Western Australia, Maeva is a beauty industry veteran who spent her youth at her Mothers’ African Hair braiding salon, and her early career working at the likes of L’Oreal and Procter & Gamble. After ditching chemical hair straightening products a few years ago, she struggled to find clean hair products that were easy to navigate and would uncomplicate her hair life. So, the idea for BREAD was born - a clean and contemporary hair brand that would simplify haircare routines; the basics, the must have’s, just like bread.

  • Manny | Jungle Fruits

    Manny was born and raised in South London and has a background in sport tech. He is the co-founder of Jungle Fruits, an exotic dried fruit snacking brand. After being tired of eating snacks that contained added sugar and preservatives, he decided to start a fruit snack company and bring a tropical vibe to an otherwise boring market. Jungle Fruits was created and they are on a mission mission To inspire healthier communities by making super fruits more affordable, accessible and convenient for everyone.
