The Genesis of Modern UPRT: Uncovering the Essential Elements of Training Effectiveness:
​​​​​​​The day after Air France 447 plunged into the South Atlantic Ocean enroute from Brazil to Paris, a conference began in London at the Royal Aeronautical Society. They had gathered there to address the rising threat of Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I). It would be well over a year before it was known that Air France 447 had been a victim of LOC-I, but by then efforts that began at that conference in London were well underway to identify training that could reduce such accidents through Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT).

Main Speaker and Subject Matter Expert: Our guest speaker, Captain Bryan Burks, presented a paper at the initial conference held by the Flight Simulation Group, and has been involved in the fight to reduce the risk of through UPRT ever since. Bryan has accumulated over 25,000 hours and has served as an Instructor Pilot and Check Airman. Since 2011 Bryan has served as the UPRT lead at Alaska Airlines.
