Navigating LGBTQ+ Mental Wellness with Claire Black
In their research, Stats NZ found that "the LGBT+ population were still over two times more likely to have daily feelings of anxiety compared to the non-LGBT+ population." We have noticed a similar trend in our own data, which shows that LGTBQ+ people who logged their mood on our app were approx 30% more more likely to log their mood as being "tired," or "flat." This goes to show that there are an array of issues presented to people who identify as queer that take an overall toll on mental health, making many people feel like they are "languishing," rather than thriving.
In this webinar, Claire Black (she/her) will join us to help unpack the unique mental health challenges the LGBTQ+ community face.
Claire was Chief Executive of OutLine Aotearoa, a national Rainbow mental health support and advocacy charity in Aotearoa New Zealand, from late 2019 til the end of 2023. Her highlights in the role include launching a chat support service to complement the phoneline, and working closely with strategic
partner Spark to advocate for Rainbow communities, especially with the Beyond Binary Code campaign.
Claire's Master’s thesis was about how rainbow young people in New Zealand use digital technologies, and she is passionate about understanding benefits and harms of digital technologies and using these insights to improve equity and wellbeing for marginalised communities.
In this webinar, we'll cover navigating your queer identity in the workspace, how fostering meanignful discussions and connections in queer digital spaces can be used to improve wellbeing, and which steps can be taken to systemically improve mental health for all identities. We'll see you there!
