Mark Evans

Mark Evans has lived in Oman for 18 years, founding the first Outward Bound school in the Arabic speaking world that now trains more than 5,000 people each year in the mountains and deserts of Oman. He has an intimate knowledge of Oman thanks to a solo 55-day kayak journey along the entire coastline, an 80-day journey on foot and by camel from south to north, and eight years ago, with two Omani companions Mark became the first person in 85 years to retrace the first ever crossing of the Empty Quarter-the largest sand desert on earth, a journey of 49 days.

As a writer and traveller, Jonny has visited more than 100 countries and, in addition to his books, has had articles featured in a variety of publications including the Daily Telegraph, The Times, Observer and Wanderlust. He has lectured to the Royal Geographical Society on a number of occasions in both London and Hong Kong.
