About the Speaker:

Kerry-Anne Viljoen is a Research & Development Chemist at Environ Skin Care in South Africa, where she began her career in cosmetics three and a half years ago. Prior to this, she worked in Materials Science, Failure Investigations, and Vendor Management. While pursuing her interest in skincare, she completed the Coschem course alongside her professional work.

She holds an MSc in Chemistry, specializing in Supramolecular Chemistry. Although a niche field, it provided her with valuable problem-solving and analytical skills that continue to enhance her work in research and development.

Passionate about sustainability, Kerry-Anne is eager to expand her expertise in this area. Recently, she was honored with the 2024 Maison G. de Navarre Young Scientist Essay Prize for her essay on Sustainability and Life Cycle Thinking. This recognition granted her the opportunity to attend the IFSCC Congress in Brazil, where she engaged with global experts on the future of sustainable cosmetics.

About the Guest Scientist:

Jacques Strydom is currently the Chair of the Steering Committee for the 2029 IFSCC congress. Coschem is putting his name forward as a candidate to join the Praesidium in September 2025 as the South African representative in anticipation to the 2029 Congress, where he aims to contribute to the global dialogue in cosmetic chemistry. Previously, Jacques served as the President of Coschem in South Africa, an organization affiliated with the IFSCC. He has also presented a webinar on surface chemistry on the IFSCC platform, reflecting his commitment to sharing knowledge within the community.
 
Jacques holds a degree in chemical engineering and has dedicated the majority of his career to cosmetic R&D and product development over the last decade. Currently, he is the Business Manager for Care Solutions at Evonik Africa, where he has been focused on driving innovation and growth in Sub-Saharan Africa since October 2023.
