January 9, 2021 from 10 am - 5 pm

​​​​​​​Join Latinx and Chicanx artists and scholars including MacArther Fellow Amalia Mesa-Bains, renowned collector Armando Duran, and internationally recognized Chicana artist Judith Baca Ph.D. ​​​​​​​and others for personal accounts, live Q & A, and a live panel discussion with presenters, moderated by Susana Smith Bautista, Ph.D.

MMA is also proud to welcome United States Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera as the invocation speaker for this year’s Art of the State Symposium.

The Symposium coincides with MMA Exhibition

"The Califas Legacy Project: 
Ancestral Journey / El Viaje Ancestral"

opening virtually on January 8th, in partnership with 
Museo Eduardo Carrillo
Califas artists will host the morning discussion about generational experiences and activism in and around the Monterey Bay Crescent. The Museum will also host local performers La Sofa Queen, Xago, and Bactun 12 for music, performances, and spoken word presentations.
