Low-cost and high-performance hydrogen fuel cells are crucial for the global hydrogen economy. How can they become cheaper and more efficient?
This webinar will first provide you with a short crash course on hydrogen fuel cells from catalysts to how fuel cell cars work. The best catalyst for fuel cells is currently platinum, which also happens to be one of the rarest and most expensive metals on Earth (!).
Dr Meyer, one of the leading experts on hydrogen fuel cells, will discuss his research on low-cost alternatives to platinum and explain the performance and durability challenges lying ahead to using them in real hydrogen fuel cells. Finally, he will introduce his recent breakthrough in hydrogen fuel cell water modelling, recently accepted in Nature Communications, which should allow to improve water and gas diffusion.
Dr Quentin Meyer is one of the leading experts on hydrogen fuel cells, investigating both low-cost catalysts and new stack design innovations. He leads the fuel cell cluster in UNSW Sydney, co-supervising PhD students, and has set up a brand new hydrogen laboratory. Until January 2023, he has published 46 journal articles, given over 20 communications at national and international conferences, and several invited seminars and short courses. He won the EDRACI - Young Electrochemist Award for the Australia – New Zealand region in February 2021 for his contribution to the field.
