Solar and Wind to Hydrogen – Best Practice from Germany

Free Webinar
December 7, 2022 - 4 pm in Berlin, 10 am in New York, 11 pm in Beijing

In September 2022, the largest Green Hydrogen production plant in Bavaria was inaugurated. It uses a PEM electrolyzer with 8.75 MW, powered by solar and wind, to produce hydrogen and heat. The hydrogen will be distributed to refueling stations and local industrial customers. The waste heat will be used for district heating.

The Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder said at the opening ceremony: "[The city of] Wunsiedel is sexy, it is the pacemaker of Bavaria in terms of energy. What is happening here is sensational, this is the best hydrogen project Bavaria has to offer, it is in the Champions League."

The EPC for the project was Siemens. Their Smart Infrastructure division used a new approach to plan, finance and build the project. A special focus was on the local electric grid, where new technologies such as IoT were implemented to optimize all parameters.

In this webinar, experts from Siemens will showcase this project – built in the south of Germany where sun and wind are far from being abundant and bureaucracy is challenging – and explain how it can be used as a blueprint for other hydrogen projects around the world. They will also explain how IoT can help to stabilize renewable grids and power supply solutions.
