What You Will Learn In The Webinar

The advantage of liquid hydrogen is the higher energy density and the (relatively) small refueling station. The disadvantage is the very low temperature of ~ 20 Kelvin (-253 degrees Celsius), which makes it challenging to store and availability of large scale liquefiers (I think there are only four liquefiers in Europe at the moment).

A technology that combines both advantages is cryo-compressed hydrogen.
In simple words for those of you who have never heard of it before: If you store a gas under high pressure AND low temperature at the same time, the storage density is much higher, and this helps to both have more range and more flexibility on the infrastructure side.
The storage densities of typical technologies are:

  • Gaseous, 35 MPa: 24 kg/m^3
  • Gaseous, 70 MPa: 40 kg/m^3
  • Subcooled Liquid Hydrogen, 1.6 MPa, 28 K: up to 62 kg/m^3
  • Cryocompressed Hydrogen, 30 MPa, 54 K: up to 72 kg/m^3
The leading company in this field is Cryomotive GmbH from Munich, Germany. Cryomotive is a startup dedicated to only one goal: Enable cryocompressed hydrogen storage for vehicle applications.

In this webinar, Cryomotive co-founder and managing director Tobias Brunner will show you:

  • What Cryocompressed Hydrogen is
  • How it works
  • What a refueling station looks like
  • What the advantages are
  • What challenges have to be overcome
  • What the Technology Readiness Level is
  • What you can expect from Cryomotive in the coming years
