What You Will Learn In The Webinar
One of the advantages of hydrogen is its high energy density per mass – three times higher than diesel. However, the volumetric energy density is very low, which makes compression or liquefaction necessary.
Hydrogen compression has been a challenge in almost every project in the last 20 years and still remains a challenge for the large scale-up the hydrogen industry is going to experience in the coming decades.
The biggest challenges include:
✓ Selection of the right compression technology
✓ Cost (both CAPEX and OPEX)
✓ Energy efficiency
✓ Hydrogen purity
✓ Lifetime e.g. of sealings
✓ Pulsation, vibration and noise
✓ Downtime due to repair and maintenance / redundancy
✓ MTBO and MTBF
✓ Etc.
The European Forum for Reciprocating Compressors (EFRC) is a leading non-profit association that addresses these challenges and supports the industry with pre-competitive research, standardization, training and information exchange. Members include Hoerbiger, NEUMAN&ESSER, Burckhardt Compression, TNO, Technical University of Dresden, Technical University of Vienna and many other compressor and oil&gas companies.
A few months ago, the EFRC has published a White Paper on hydrogen compression. It explains the different aspects of hydrogen compression, compares technologies such as reciprocating, hydraulic, diaphragm, centrifugal and electrochemical compressors and gives an overview of the different applications.
In our next webinar, three experts from Hoerbiger (Austria) and TNO (Netherlands) will give you an overview of their findings and explain what the compressor industry has to do to meet the upcoming needs of the hydrogen industry.
