Manufacturing in Space

Rethinking How We Build Beyond Earth

In-Space Manufacturing: Current Capabilities and Future Directions

As space missions become more ambitious, the idea of manufacturing directly in orbit is moving from a niche topic to a strategic consideration. This webinar offers a clear and structured overview of why this shift matters, what has already been achieved, and what still needs to be developed to make it viable at scale.

  • Why Manufacturing in Space

The session will open with a closer look at how space hardware is currently designed and produced, and how strongly this process is shaped by launch constraints. From there, it will explore why manufacturing in space is gaining attention, highlighting the potential to rethink design limitations, reduce dependency on Earth-based logistics, and enable more flexible and scalable mission architectures.

  • What capabilities have already been demonstrated?
We will then move to what has already been achieved, placing current developments within an international context. It will cover key milestones in in-space manufacturing, from on-orbit production and assembly to emerging applications such as on-body manufacturing and production in space for terrestrial use, offering a concrete view of where the field stands today.

  • Key Challenges and Technological Gaps
Finally, the session will focus on what is still missing. Despite clear progress, several technical challenges remain before these capabilities can be used reliably and at scale. The discussion will highlight the main areas where further development is required to move from isolated demonstrations to operational systems.

  • Live Q&A Session
The webinar will conclude with an open Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and explore specific questions in more depth.
