UK Tonnage Tax and International Tax Update

About the Webinar

There have been a number of recent changes to the UK tonnage tax rules, including a new election window and the intention to allow qualifying ship managers into the regime from April 2024.

Co-organised by Maritime London and BDO, the webinar will feature:

  • an overview of the tonnage tax regime and an update on these changes

  • an update on the progress of international tax reform, including the UK transfer pricing rules and the implementation of a global minimum tax under the OECD’s ‘Pillar Two’ proposals

  • a panel discussion, followed by Q&A

  • James Bailey, Director - Corporate International Tax, BDO

    James is based in London and specialises in providing corporation tax compliance and advisory services to companies in the shipping and related maritime industries, both in the UK and internationally. James works with a number of groups within the UK tonnage tax regime and has experience dealing with a variety of international taxation work. He is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser.

  • Ken Almand, Partner, Transfer Pricing, BDO

    Ken is a partner in an award-winning UK transfer pricing team. He has 25 years of experience specialising in transfer pricing gained at HM Revenue & Customs, Big 4 and mid-market firms. He is highly experienced at leading teams of specialists and delivering collaborative solutions to multinational businesses and organisations, including in shipping and related sectors. His insight into the thinking and tactics of tax authorities is combined with a practical commercial approach valued by clients.

  • Katrina Ross, Policy Director, Commercial and Governance, UK Chamber of Shipping

    Katrina Ross leads on commercial and governance issues. Her responsibilities include tax and economics, international trade, commercial shipping policy and, in particular, green and sustainable finance. Katrina started her career in financial services, before moving into policy for the shipping industry. Katrina is a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS), with a Masters in Commercial Law (LLM). Before returning to the Chamber in 2023, she worked for TheCityUK as the policy lead on green finance and tax issues.
