Summer Concert 2021, featuring the premiere of
'Theory of the Earth' by Jay Capperauld
About the Concert
This summer's concert promises to be a wonderful mix. The first half features a hint of Eastern promise with pieces from Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky while the second half is dedicated to the very first of the new commissions which form part of The Seven Hills Project. 'Theory of the Earth' has been composed by Jay Capperauld and takes its inspiration from Edinburgh's most iconic hill, Arthur's Seat.
Join us as the whole school performs in a variety of venues to bring this very special event to your doors.
About The Seven Hills Project
In academic year 2022/23, St Mary's Music School celebrates its 50th anniversary as an instrumental music school. Leading up to this landmark event, we have devised a major new music project celebrating composition, creativity and community. It combines original poetry by Alexander McCall Smith, commissions of chamber music by seven composers and a major work for orchestra and choir, written by Sir James MacMillan CBE. The project will form an exceptional body of work which not only celebrates our fifty years, but also pays tribute to our home in Scotland’s capital – the beautiful city of Edinburgh
