🚨 SSM’s Latest Enforcement & Prosecution: What Company Secretaries & Directors Must Know

At the end of December 2024, two headlines caught my eye:

📰 "SSM crackdown: Over 6,500 firms penalised for non-compliance." 
📰 “SSM probed 19 firms for illegal investment schemes in first half of 2024."

These reports shook me.

💸 36,510 fines were issued.

🔎 Over 6,517 legal actions were taken by SSM in 2023 alone – the majority for one simple reason: companies failed to file their annual returns and financial statements on time.
👨‍⚖️ And now, investment scams are being investigated actively under the Companies Act 2016 and the Interest Schemes Act 2016.

🔎 From 2017 to June, SSM investigated 197 companies. 

🔎 19 companies were investigated for illegal investment schemes the first half of 2024 alone

As I kept watching SSM's social media page updates and the enforcement Ops they're actively conducting with Bank Negara, SC, KPDN, MACC, and others... it became clear:
