Lillian Hannah U joins us in this episode of Stage Managers Chat at TheatreArtLife. We will talk about her working experience as an Australian stage manager and some challenges she faced along the way.​​​​​​​

About Lillian Hannah U
Lillian (she/her) is a first-generation Chinese-Australian woman and stage manager from Sydney, Australia. Her work across theatre, dance, circus, spectacle and major events is deeply rooted in inclusive, collaborative and culturally-considered practices.
 
Lillian was most recently the Stage Manager for Michelle Law’s trilingual production, Miss Peony at Belvoir. From 2018 to 2020, Lillian was the resident stage manager of Bangarra Dance Theatre, Australia’s premiere Indigenous Dance Company and toured regionally, nationally and internationally with productions of OUR: Land People, Stories (2018), Dark Emu (2018), Bennelong (2018-2019), 30 Years of 65,000 (2019) and Spirit (2018 -2019).
She has toured to India, Japan, Canada and the USA.
 
Other theatre credits as stage manager include: the premiere national tour of Drummer Queens (Neil Gooding Productions & Repercussions Productions), The Gruffalo’s Child (CDP Productions), Chrysalis (ATYP), The Village Bike (Cross Pollinate Productions) and Champions (FORM Dance Projects). Event credits include: WugulOra Indigenous Morning Ceremony 2020 (Department of Premier and Cabinet) as showcaller; Bondi Feast (Waverley Council), Sydney Writer’s Festival (SWF) as stage manager, Lord Mayor’s Picnic (Sydney New Year’s Eve) 2017 and 2019 as assistant stage manager.
 
Recently, Lillian was elected to the Board of Directors for the newly forming Australian Stage Managers’ association and is committed to uplifting the work of and educating young Indigenous, Black and POC stage managers and theatre practitioners in Australia and abroad.
 
Lillian has tutored in Dance for Stage Management at NIDA and spoken as a panelist on Supporting Indigenous Performance for at USITT’s National Collaborator’s Conference.
 
Lillian is a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA BFA - Technical Theatre and Stage Management) and is mental health-first aid trained.
