Demystifying & Reducing the Stigma of Restrictive Practices
About The Webinar
Restrictive practices remain one of the most complex and sensitive areas within Positive Behaviour Support. Too often, they are misunderstood, stigmatised, or hidden away, leading to fear, avoidance, and inconsistent practice. However, when used ethically, transparently, and with a strong reduction plan, restrictive practices can sometimes be necessary to safeguard dignity, safety, and well-being.
In this professional training webinar, Insight PBS practitioners Ainsley and Jess will go beyond the basics to unpack the myths and misconceptions surrounding restrictive practices. Through a series of real-world case studies and practical examples, they will demonstrate how restrictive practices can be:
Identified and acknowledged without stigma or defensiveness
Applied ethically and lawfully when absolutely required
Monitored and reduced through proactive planning and skill-building strategies
Participants will leave with the confidence to approach restrictive practices in an open, professional, and person-centred way. This session is designed to strengthen your knowledge, reduce the stigma, and provide actionable strategies to support participants, families, and care teams.
