Mindful Return's Book Talk: Talking to Our Kids About IVF and ART
About The Webinar
Ali Prato is a journalist, IVF mom, host of the award-winning podcast Infertile AF, which has been downloaded more than 3 million times, and author of the Work of ART children’s book series, created to help families talk openly and proudly about the many ways families are made.
Her newest book, Petri Dish Princess, tells the extraordinary true story of Elizabeth Carr, the first baby born via IVF in the United States. Through Elizabeth’s story, Ali celebrates the history of IVF while giving today’s IVF children a joyful, age-appropriate way to understand their own beginnings and see just how special their stories are.
Join Ali Prato in conversation with Mindful Return’s CEO & Founder, Lori Mihalich-Levin, to discuss:
The story behind Petri Dish Princess
How Ali and Elizabeth Carr came together to turn a remarkable piece of IVF history into a children’s book, and why it was important to tell Elizabeth’s story nearly 45 years after her groundbreaking birth.
How we talk to children about IVF and assisted reproduction
Why age-appropriate, positive conversations about conception and family building matter, and how books can give parents the language and confidence to start those conversations early.
Representation, storytelling and the next generation of IVF and ART families
How the Work of ART series grew out of Ali’s own experience as an IVF mom and fertility advocate, and why seeing their family-building stories reflected in books can help children feel proud of how they came to be.
