Cortical and Non-Cortical Myoclonus after Cardiac Arrest
Post-hypoxic myoclonus (PHM) arises after cardiac arrest (CA) due to brain injury and increased neuronal hyperactivity.
The myoclonus usually starts with-in 72 hrs after the CA and stops after a few days. However, not very well understood, PHM poses clinical challenges and poor prognosis. Therapeutic hypothermia after CA has become standard of care.
The evolution of EEG during and after hypothermia is helpful in predicting the outcome.
