cEEG in Critically Ill Patients in the ICU

ICU patient population is critically ill and is treated for number of neurological conditions like status epilepticus (both convulsive as well as non-convulsive), brain injury due to head trauma, infections, stroke and cardiac arrest with very stereotypical continuous or intermittent clinical signs like tremors, twitches, nystagmus, focal or generalized jerks.  

Most of these patients are comatose and are monitored for brain function via continuous EEG (cEEG) with video recording for extended period of time, hours to days continuously.

The duration of the cEEG is highly dependent on patients’ clinical condition and indications for monitoring. EEG is one of the major non-invasive diagnostic procedures to evaluate patients’ brain health.
